Pokki developed by OpenCandy is a framework built on Chromium that allows developers to build basic applications using standard web technologies. It also provides a common platform same like app store or more precise Google Chrome’s web store to assemble apps and make available publicly. Pokki currently has apps for Gmail, Facebook, Groupon, eBay, the WSJ, Living Social, and Twitter and added two new music-focused Pokkies, Grooveshark and Rdio.
It can also be used as a desktop building applications software based on HTML5, CSS and JavaScript for a modernized web application experience. Basically Pokki can be used in three ways as:
- An interface that makes it easy for users to access apps and notifications
- A framework that enables web developers to build great desktop apps
- A store for users to find apps thus connecting users and developers
Developing apps through Pokki: Pokki enables web developers to create rich, connected mini-desktop applications using the latest web standards. You can create applications in seconds and can convert websites into applications. The framework is easy to understand and there are handfuls of special JavaScript APIs for the convenience. Pokki also offers you to participate in the contest by submitting your developed app. You can win up to $30,000.
Using Pokki as an interface you will find some exciting features while using its apps like Facebook, Gmail, etc. First, these applications support nice notification tags in the menu bar and are also handy by design When you click on one app it will pop up in a small window that you can use to access your Facebook wall, Gmail inbox, or whatever other application you’ve installed and as soon as you click outside of the Pokki, and it disappears.
